How are you?
We are already on the 7th day of March, 2020 and I’m hoping you have already swung back with a feeling of renewed sense of energy that a new month can bring no matter what the year has handed you so far. While I don’t have all the answers, actually no one has, I do know this; it is OK to dedicate time for yourself to feel healthy, empowered and motivated. Ultimately if you take care of yourself it will not only make you a better person, but also, make you shine from the inside out. I’m here to remind you all (and myself) that it’s our duty to shine our brightest.

Taking good care of ourselves is not selfish instead it is vital for every human being success. Human’s physical, spiritual and emotional health is all connected. So by taking care of all these aspects in our lives we increase the likelihood that we stay healthy and thrive in most things we set our minds and hearts to achieve. Some of the most basic tips for self-care include, living healthy, making new friends, practicing good hygiene, doing something fun every day and finding a favorite activity to make you relax.

 Living healthy is a broad term that includes eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, avoiding drugs and excessive use of alcohol, managing stress and taking regular medical check-ups among other key things.

Cleanliness is second to Godliness. It goes without saying that, practicing good hygiene is very important for social, medical, and psychological reasons, in that, it not only reduces the risk of illness, but it also improves the way others view you and how you view yourself. Looking good and feeling good makes one have increased self-confidence and become more productive. This will also be part of the journey to make new friends and retain those already present. A friend helps one to build a sense of belonging. So having a good base of friends who supports you, is an important part of our lives too.
MOMBASA, KENYA
Doing something you enjoy every day which may include, playing sports, dancing, watching a favorite TV show, working in the garden, cycling, playing cards, painting, writing, cooking, reading  or singing is also something that makes you relax . You can also do meditation, yoga, getting a massage, swimming, taking a steam bath or walking in nature among other fun activities. Activities like painting, learning simple skills on things you've always wanted to do like baking, photography,  painting, building simple things or learning how to knit can also make you enjoy life and relax. If you're not sure how, take a class and improve your skills or learn a new one.

Strive to stay happy and aim to get a good laugh. Its not easy when you think about it, but its possible, especially if you think about all the bad things that keep happening, right, left or center. But you can choose to look at both sides of the coin and focus on the positives more. Watch, listen or read a comic story to get a good laugh. On a light note, these days we have a lot of fun shows everywhere; including our social media platforms from pranks to funny experiments, memes and what have you, which bring humor and a good laugh any day. Hanging out with friends and meeting new people, from different cultures is also another way to find endless things and interesting things to learn and participate in. These are some fun activities that you don’t need to break a bank to indulge in.

Get a therapeutic massage. I love a good massage especially when on holiday.  A good massage can relieve muscle tension, stimulate the body's natural painkillers and boost your immune system. It also helps to feel more relaxed. Treat yourself to one from time to time and thank your body for carrying you through.

Nature is true medicine, so take a nature break from time to time. Watching sunsets, A blue sky, calmness on the mountains, the sound of crushing waves on the beach, the feeling of sand on your bare feet while walking on sandy beaches, the soft wind blowing as you maneuver lush bushes, a scenic lake, water fall or ocean, all screams beauty. Walking in or even just looking at nature calms our nerves and relieves mental fatigue. In my own experience, views of nature and the feel of it, make me happier and more relaxed every time.Get out more and enjoy the beauty of the universe.

  4. So true! I have always made health a priority with thoughtful eating and exercise habits. It really makes a difference in day to day life. Laughing is a favorite form of therapy for me! These landscape photos are stunning. Nature gives back to us in amazing ways we may not always realize.
